Mariann Hill

Our dear sweet mother, Mariann Jean Hill of Eustace, TX sadly passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at the age of 100 years. Mariann was born on January 7, 1924 to Alfred Selmer and Leona Marie Noreen Nelson in Minneapolis, MN.

She married Raymond Alton Hill on January 13, 1945 in Ventura, CA. A little back story, while Raymond was in the Seabees overseas with her brother Dick Nelson, Ray asked if he could write to Mariann. After six months of corresponding, their love began to grow and decided to meet in Los Angeles when Ray was leaving the service in December 1944, then within a couple of weeks they were married at a mission church in Ventura. Mariann and Raymond moved to Lubbock, TX to raise a family and start a new career. They moved to Mesquite, TX in 1971 and purchased some lake front property at Cedar Creek Lake in Payne Springs 1972 and resided there from 1993 to present. Mariann and Ray were married for 58 years.

She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her. She had many friends and was a well-loved in the community especially for her personalized sewing, upholstering and alterations business. Mariann and Ray were members of the Elks Lodge in Mesquite for a number of years, which they loved to support, travel throughout Texas for Inter lodge functions, special events and made life-long friends over the years.

Mariann is survived by three sons, one daughter and their spouses:

Mariann had many loving Nieces and Nephews on the Nelson, Hill, Beard, Stewart, Berg, Noreen and Bihner families.

She is preceded in death by Husband: Raymond Alton Hill; Parents: Alfred and Leona Nelson; 3 brothers, 1 sister and family in-laws: Paul Alfred Nelson, John Robert Nelson, Richard "Dick" Leonard and wife Arlene Ann Moisant Nelson; Lawrence Berg and Margaret Lorraine Nelson Berg; and Ernie and Elva Mae Hill Beard.

As per her request she will be cremated with a Celebration of Life to be held on Sunday, January 28, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Payne Springs Fire Rescue Station 1, 12650 Hwy 198, Enchanted Oaks, TX 75156. We will have light refreshments so be sure to bring your favorite stories your willing to share about Mariann.

In lieu of flowers or plants the family asks that donations/memorials be given in her memory to the charity of your choice. Mariann fully supported the Mesquite Elks Lodge, Payne Springs Fire Rescue and American Heart Association.
