Lucille Marie Houk Brooks

Lucille Marie Houk Brooks went to meet her Lord on January 30, 2016. She died of natural causes. Known to family and friends as Marie, she was born in Asher, Oklahoma on February 22, 1919 in the same house and room where her mother was born. Marie was the oldest of four daughters born to Mary Alice and Roy Houk. She was raised in Chickasha, Oklahoma where she graduated from Chickasha High School in 1938. Marie Houk and Vernon Brooks were married in 1940 before Vernon left to serve in WWII. After the war Marie and Vernon moved to Garland, Texas. They were blessed with three children. Karen Brooks Ashlock now lives in Malakoff, Christine Brooks Jones in Austin, and Kenneth Nelson Brooks is deceased. Marie was a dedicated mother and wife. She was active in the Parent Teacher Association and was leader of Camp Fire Girls for many years. She was an exceptional seamstress and cake decorator. She sand with the church choir, often as a soloist. But most of all she showed her Christianity through kindness and love to all. Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years and her sister Fern Haran. She is survived by sisters Alberta Wimberly and Jean Grisham, daughters Karen Ashlock and Christine Jones, son-in-law Cary Jones, grandchildren Michele McDaniel, Greg Ashlock, Casey Ashlock, Anne Marie Jones, and Abigail Jones. Also eleven great grandchildren, as well as 14 nieces and nephews. Marie was loved and cherished by her family and will be greatly missed.
