JoAnn Summerall was called to her Heavenly home on June 28, 2025. She passed away peacefully at her home in Tool, Texas.
JoAnn was a Christian, and a long-time member of the Providence Baptist Church in Tool, as were her parents. She loved to decorate family headstones and clean up at the Tool Cemetery, when weather and health permitted.
She is survived by her sister, Yvonne Noel of Arlington, TX, her nephew John Leland Noel and wife Gloria of Arlington, her nephew Jimmy Noel and wife Bethan of Zurich, Switzerland, grand nephew Jay Noel, also of Zurich, Switzerland, sister-in-law Shirley Summerall of Dallas and nieces Missy Summerall, Michelle Buttlar and husband Ian, her aunt Valita Dupree of Tool, her uncle Charles H. ("C.H.") Dupree, Jr. also of Tool, grand nieces Melissa Monteiro and Victoria Monteiro from Arlington, TX, and grand nephew Matthew Monteiro from Mustang, Oklahoma, as well as many cousins, 11 great-grand and 4 great-great-grand nieces and nephews, from Texas and Oklahoma, who loved her dearly.
JoAnn was predeceased in death by her father, Roland Summerall, her mother, Lois Dupree Summerall of Tool, her brother C.R. Summerall and niece Jenny Summerall of Dallas, Texas.
She is also preceded in death by her paternal Grandmother Ethel Mullins Summerall and Grandfather Alonzo Summerall, as well as her maternal Grandmother Edna Johnson Dupree and Grandfather Charles Henry Dupree, Sr. The Summerall and Dupree families settled in Tool in the late 1800s. Some attended the old Tool School, located on the grounds of the Providence Baptist Church. JoAnn is also preceded in death by many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, & friends.
JoAnn graduated from W.W. Samuel High School in Dallas in the late 1960s. She was previously employed by Mercantile Bank of Dallas and Curtis Mathes, Inc. of Athens. She retired from Child Protective Services (State of Texas) based in Corsicana, TX.
She was a selfless person who will always be remembered for taking care of and helping people, for her love of family, The Dallas Stars, music of all genres, but particularly country music, and the pop/rock music of the 1960s and 1970s and beyond, with her favorite bands being The Beatles and The Eagles respectively.
She loved genealogy and being the undisputed historian for her entire family. She planned and/or participated in many family reunions over the years, as well as attending the Tool Picnic as a child and as an adult.
She believed in the motto "sit long, talk much" which was memorialized by her father Roland in some of his woodworking projects.
JoAnn loved her trips to Seven Points with her beloved dog, Doodlebug, to get hamburgers or chicken & dumplings, where Doodlebug always got the lions share. She also cherished her 4 cats, and no animal who sought refuge at her home was ever turned away.
She will surely be missed by all who were blessed to have called her a family member or a friend. We rejoice that she is in Heaven with her Savior Jesus Christ, and with so many who have gone on before her so they can indeed "sit long, talk much."
Graveside service for JoAnn will be 1:00 PM, Friday July 18, 2025 at Tool Cemetery, Seven Points, TX. Bro. Stephen Palmer will officiate.
