Helen Jo Southern, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2026, at the age of 88. Born in Mena, Arkansas, Helen spent her life nurturing those around her with warmth, love, and unmatched culinary talents.

She was known affectionately as "Paula Dean of Cedar Creek." She brought joy and creativity into every holiday celebration. Her cooking skills were not just a hobby but a means of expressing love. Every delicious meal and beautifully decorated cake she made was touched by her generous spirit. Helen had a wonderful knack for baking, and her creations were highlights at family gatherings and community events.

A talented seamstress, Helen would skillfully make her children's school clothes and embellish her home with seasonal decorations, ensuring that her family always felt the joy of each holiday. She instilled the values of love, creativity, and commitment into her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, dedicating countless hours to their school activities. Active in her community, Helen served on the PTA and held the esteemed position of national PTA president, fighting for the best for all children.

Helen's home was a beacon of warmth, where friends and family alike were always welcome. Known as "Nanny" to many, she created a safe haven for those who needed support, love, and occasionally a comforting hug. Her generous heart and open spirit left a lasting mark on everyone she encountered.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Haskell Southern, parents Malcolm Pearce, Louise Pearce, brother, Dean Pearce, and grandson Donnie Hill.

She is survived by her daughter Sharon Stitham and husband Chris, daughter Kimberly Patterson and husband Charles, brother Glen Pearce and wife Madean, brother Emmett Pearce and wife Carolyn, and brother Jim Pearce. She will be remembered and cherished by her grandchildren Lori Hill, Teri Benson, Benjamin Southern, McKenna Patterson, and great grandchildren JJ Armstrong, Chloe Yarbrough, Donovan Minshew, Emmerson Southern, Millie Southern, and Charlie Southern. Also cherishing her memories are many nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at a later date in Mena, Arkansas.
