Fayrene Newell

September 7, 1939 — September 23, 2025

Fayrene Newell, age 86, moved to her heavenly home, surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. Her departure leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew her, but it is also a reminder of the love and warmth she radiated throughout her life.

Born on September 7, 1939, in Eustace, TX, Fayrene was welcomed into the world by her parents, Julius B. and Corena E. Anderson Gandy. Raised in the Payne Springs area and educated in Malakoff, Fayrene embraced her Texas roots and held them close to her heart.

Fayrene dedicated her life to her family, taking on the cherished roles of a devoted wife, mother, granny, great-granny, and great-great granny. With a nurturing spirit, she cared for her loved ones through every season of life-through illness, heartache, and joy. Her commitment to family was evident in every meal prepared, every comforting word spoken, and every time she lent a helping hand.

As a steadfast Christian, Fayrene found solace and purpose in her faith. Her talents flourished as she played the piano, sang hymns, and sewed lovingly crafted items for each church community she became a part of. Cooking was her passion, and after retiring, she made it her mission to prepare three meals a day not only for her husband but also for her beloved dogs and anyone else she could coax to her supper table. Fayrene delighted in sewing and nurturing her beautiful rose garden-each bloom whispering tales of her gentle nature.

She is now reunited in heaven with the love of her life for 56 years, James Ross Newell; her parents, Julius and Corena Gandy; her daughter, Debra Faye Newell; her brothers, Carter, Harvey, Kenneth, and Clifton Gandy; as well as her son-in-law, Ron Huckabee.

Fayrene is survived by her three children: Debi Evans and her husband Bill, Beverly Huckabee, and Dwayne Newell. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, who carry forth her spirit: Casey Lewis, Chris Newell, Amanda and Luis Martinez, Elizabeth and Dane Goode, Adam and Kellie Newell, Ethan and Jordyn Newell, and James Newell. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Dakota and Katie, Savanah and Lacey, Hannah and Zack, Payton, Vayden, Venna, Mexia, Levi, Drake, Joslynn, Nathan, Jacob, Adalie, Greyson, Scarlet, Bradley; and her great-great-grandchildren, Ryleigh, Patrick, and Jaxson.

Fayrene's life will be honored in a service at Faith Community Baptist Church on Saturday, September 27, 2025. The viewing will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with Dane Goode officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Newell, Adam Newell, Ethan Newell, James Newell, Dakota Lewis, Vayden Newell, and Drake Goode.
