Benny died in Tyler on Monday, May 11th, 2026. He was born in Malakoff on January 8, 1930 to Tom and Mamie Rogers, and was a proud, lifelong resident of Malakoff. He graduated from Malakoff High School where he enjoyed playing basketball and football, and held a school record at the time of scoring 6 touchdowns in one game. Over the course of his life, Benny worked various jobs. One of his first being at the Brick Yard in Malakoff for 11 years followed by his most enjoyable employment stint at Nipak Fertilizer Plant in Kerens, Texas, where he worked for 14 years until its closing. He then worked at Concrete Construction with his best friend, Rex King. His last job was loading sulfur in railcars at the Shell Smackover Plant in Eustace. Benny served twice in the United States Army volunteering following WWII and serving again during the Korean War. Benny enjoyed squirrel and quail hunting in his early years with his friends and family. In his later years, he enjoyed deer hunting with his grandkids, and tending to his garden each Spring and Fall. He was a devoted Malakoff Tiger football fan and loved watching Texas Rangers baseball. One of his greatest passions was attending the Athens Old Fiddler's Reunion each year even going AWOL once from military duty to attend. He enjoyed going to the pasture to feed the cows with his dog Hank Williams. Most days you could find Benny sitting outside on the porch watching the cars pass by and the birds in the yard. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Mamie Rogers, and five brothers and three sisters, Ray, Gladys, Hazel, Faye, Leroy, Lester, Herman, and Leamon. Benny is survived by his wife of 71 years, Lisa; his daughter and son-in-law Lana and Stephen Tardiff of Malakoff; his son and daughter-in-law Russell and Linda Rogers of Cross Roads; his sister Mable Simmons of Enid, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Stevie Tardiff, Shelby Bane, Julie Rogers, and Wesley Rogers; and two great-grandchildren, Heidi and Walker Bane.
