David Lee Johnson II

David Johnson, 76, was called to his eternal resting place on April 9, 2026. He entered this world on April 24, 1949, in Mabank, TX, born to A.J. and Helen Johnson.

David loved fishing and cooking out. He was the best meat smoker. He enjoyed working and helping others when he could, and he even enjoyed working on vehicles. He received his education from Mabank School Districts as well as Kemp.

He is preceded in death by his parents A.J. and Helen Johnson; sons Marquis Johnson, Kenneth Johnson; grandmother Hettie Overstreet; siblings Ora Frazier, Dorothy Ballard, Hettie Morris, Fayretta Fushmore, A.J. Johnson, Jr., and Howard Johnson.

He is survived by his daughter Alisha and husband Joseph Gagliano of Athens, TX; son Reginald and wife Arrecia Johnson of Mesquite, TX; siblings Helen Jackson of Terrell, TX, Henry Johnson of Arlington, TX, Horthy and wife Dianne Johnson of DeSoto, TX, Anita Franklin of Mabank, TX, Sisley Johnson of Kaufman, TX. His legacy lives on in his grandchildren Darius Manning, Terrance Smith, Ashley Johnson, Marquis Dowell, Tiara Johnson, Roneshia Johnson, Reginald Johnson, Jr., and his great-grandchildren Darius Gagliano, Kingston Gagliano, Katalina Gagliano, Rosalina Clayton, Malayasia Hanes, Malayasia Johnson, Maleah Johnson, Antoine Stevens, Z'Niyah Dowell, Sariyah Dowell, Emmarie Dowell, Umi Dowell, and McKenzie.

Friends and family will gather on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Huckabee-Tomlinson Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. A service for David will take place Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 11 a.m. at First Assembly of God, Mabank. Serving as pallbearers will be Andre' Johnson, Chris White, Clifford Johnson, Ricky Jacobs, Stacey Johnson, Ellis Lynn Franklin. Honorary pallbearers are Jeremy Hunter, Deonte Potts, and Derick.
