On March 30, 2026, David Charles Burton, aged 95, peacefully closed his eyes on this earth and opened them in the presence of his Lord and Savior. A man of quiet strength and profound faith, David leaves behind a legacy as vibrant as the hymns he loved to lead.
Born on October 27, 1930, in Corsicana, Texas, to Cas Calvin and Birdie Mae Burton, David grew into a man who understood the value of hard work and dedication. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force, a formative chapter that preceded his 37-year career with Texas Power and Light. As Operations Supervisor of the Trinidad Power Station, he took great pride in his work, but his true impact was felt in the heart of the Trinidad community. From serving on the Chamber of Commerce establishing the Trinity River Jamboree, recruiting Trinidad's beloved Doctor John Sawtell DO. David worked tirelessly to make his hometown a better place for everyone.
For many years, the rafters of Trinity Baptist Church rang with the sound of David's voice. As the faithful Choir Director and Song Leader, he shared his love for Christ through music. Though his hands-which worked on restoring vehicles, led the choir, and held his loved ones-are at rest now, the melodies of "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross" remain as a testament to his unwavering devotion.
David's greatest joy was found in the family he built alongside his beloved wife, Cora Estell Burton, whom he married on August 15, 1949. Together, they raised four children: daughter Teresa Ann Burton (Day), son Michael David Burton and wife Pam, son Ricky Charles Burton and wife Sylvia, and son Kenneth Ray Burton and wife Heather, who saw in him a model of what it means to be a "good and faithful servant." His influence blossomed through generations, reaching his eight grandchildren: Nicole Day Gurley, Jonathan Day, Brad (Amy) Burton, Brooke (John) Burton Hall, Krista (Ray) Burton Crocker, Wesley (Emily) Burton, Kevin (Rachel) Burton, and Kelsie (Josh) Burton Price. His legacy lives on through seventeen great-grandchildren: Madison and Elizabeth Gurley, Jayden, Emma, and Blakelynn Day, Gracie (Jacob) Burton Bradley, Lincoln and Kinsler Burton, Landon and Riley Hall, Caleb Crocker, Lillian and Kate Burton, Lleyton Burton, Natalie Latimeer, Arya and Sawyer Price, and his darling great-great-granddaughter, Tatum Jo Bradley.
Whether he was cheering on his beloved Dallas Cowboys and Rangers or sharing a quiet moment with his family, David's presence was a steady anchor.
His family rejoices in the promise that he is now home, walking in glory, and reunited with his parents, precious wife Cora, his infant son Kevin Leon, and wonderful son-in-law Jim Day to be forever in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His family takes comfort in the promise of Matthew 25:23: "Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord."
