Clara Smithers

d. January 30, 2020

Clara Mae (Richardson) Smithers, 84 years, of Trinidad, passed away on Thursday January 30, 2020 at her home near Tool, TX. Clara was born in Snyder, OK to James Floyd Richardson. Clara was raised by her father and grandparents on their family farm southwest of Snyder. She was a proud Snyder High School Cyclone graduate of 1953. She continued her education at Hardin-Simmons University and Decatur Baptist College. Clara was very active in high school and college. She continued many of her friendships from her school and college years by faithfully attending reunions and via social media. Clara lived and worked briefly in Altus, OK before moving to Fort Worth-Arlington Texas area. Clara retired from the city of Arlington after years of service. During her time with the City of Arlington she met Houston Smithers. They were married May 9, 1975 in Arlingron. After their retirement they moved full time to their lake home near Tool. Houston preceded Clara in death on October 23, 2012.
Clara was an active member of First Baptist Church, Tool, TX. She enjoyed singing in the choir and fellowship with many friends. Clara was very close with her cousin Gail Richardson Marple her entire life. They spent many hours together as Clara often got off the school bus at Gail's home. The two shared a "sister" bond rather than cousins. Gail's two children, Karen and Keith, loved Clara dearly and considered her their "2nd Mom." Clara always introduced them as "her kids."
Clara was a dedicated "fur baby" mom also. She had many dogs during her life, loving and caring for each one and considering them a part of her family.
Clara is survived by Keith Marple and wife Cheryl, of Lawton, OK; Karen Sanchez and husband Aldo, of Altus, OK and her brother Jerry Richardson. She is also survived by numerous cousins, relatives, and friends. She valued each person in her life.
