Christine Wilson, 93, of Kemp, TX, died peacefully in her home on November 3, 2022, surrounded by her family and pastor. She was born on August 26, 1929, to Melvin and Gazell Hataway in Jacksonville, TX.

Christine grew up in a large family that included 6 siblings. She graduated from high school in Dallas, TX. Christine had a life-long love for learning and adventure, and at the age of 53, enrolled in Texas A&M University where she attended classes for two years before returning to her home town of Kemp, TX.

Christine worked in a variety of roles including homemaker, seamstress, pharmacy assistant, administrative assistant and office manager. The most important concerns to her were her family and her faith in God. She joined the Kemp United Methodist Church in 1960 and was involved in all areas of the church, including leading the adult and children's choirs, teaching Sunday School, planning and participating in fundraisers and special events, mission trips and other leadership roles. Christine joined the Sweet Adeline's group where she pursued her love for singing and performing.

Some of Christine's hobbies included music, singing, gardening, reading, sewing, crossword puzzles, and fishing. She was a great cook and famous for her cornbread and sweet tea. Christine was also a talented artist and writer and enjoyed writing short stories and poems occasionally. She enjoyed traveling and visited several states and Canada during her lifetime. Christine always looked forward to family reunions and visiting with her large extended family.

It was her love for dancing that led to her meeting her beloved husband, James Powell, who was the love of her life for the past 17 years.

Everyone knew Christine for her kind heart, gentle humor and love for her family and community. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Christine is survived by her husband, James Powell; daughter and son-in-law, Christy and John Randolph; son, John Carter; daughter and son-in-law, Nita and Ray Collins; and daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and James Mashburn; three siblings, Sue and her husband Roger, Melvin Hataway, and Bee Hataway; 9 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Christine is predeceased by her parents and sisters, Janie Moss and Dot Stringer.

Services will be held at Huckabee-Tomlinson Funeral Home in Seven Points, TX at 2:00pm on November 6, 2022.
